A NEWSLETTER FOR HAMLIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COMMUNITY

Principal's Message

It has been another great week at Hamlin!

Our K-2 students completed their Beginning of Year FAST assessments. This week on Monday and Tuesday, our 3-5 students will take their reading and math FAST. Please make sure your students are at school on time, get a good night of sleep, and eat breakfast. We will use the data from all grade levels to help target our students’ needs to maximize their learning this year.

We are about halfway through the first quarter, we appreciate your support of our teachers as they work hard to provide the best education possible for all students. Also, please make sure you are checking your child’s Skyward account to make sure there aren’t missing assignments. If you have questions regarding assignments, please be in communication with your child’s teacher(s).

Also, we need to address a very important safety note. Please do NOT double park on Silver Grove Blvd during dismissal. We are receiving complaints from residents of the neighborhood. You must go through the car line to pick up your students or walk. It is not safe for our students to cross the street with double-parked cars. It is also blocking our daycare vans and buses from safely getting through by our campus. The police officer will begin issuing tickets to people parking on the road. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Finally, don’t forget about our grandparent game night this Friday! We hope to see you there!

Thanks for your continued support!

Best Regards,

Dr. Angela Murphy-Osborne
Principal

Media Center Updates

Students are starting to visit the library at our school. Our library is an extension of the classroom at our school.  It is a place where we share stories, build creations, work on digital projects and so much more. You will hear students working together, sharing recommendations, testing out robotics, and learning to love reading. During the students' first visits, we will go over library expectations, procedures, and book care.

Accelerated Reader is Available

Accelerated Reader is a digital program that helps students and teachers manage and monitor independent reading practice in both English and Spanish. Students pick a book at their level and read it at their own pace. When students finish the book, they take a short quiz on a computer/device to check their understanding. As students read and take quizzes, they earn points and track their progress toward their individualized Accelerated Reader goals.

All students in K-5 have the ability to use AR at school or home. You can access the program by using Launchpad.

In Launchpad, Click on Renaissance.
Then Click on Accelerated Reader
Type in the title of the book the student is quizzing on.  Then Click Start Quiz.

Grade 3-5 students can earn brag tags for meeting their quarterly goals.

Our library does have several books with an AR quiz (those are the books labeled with a dot sticker on the side of the library book).
